The direction
I do not like
I work on Death Moon RPG every day. Sometimes I only take one or two sentences worth of notes, sometimes I only make some ugly doodles. But I work on it every day.
And today I realized I do not like the direction the game is heading.
It’s slowly becoming too normal.
I’ve already posted some weird things - the Diagrams, the Encounters or even the Hand of Fortune. And yes, I like them very much. And I’d like the rest of the finished book be like them. But some parts are becoming too mundane. Items aren’t very inspiring, some tables seem too normal - and above all, some things require explaining.
I think I’ll get rid of anything that’s too normal.
I’m following the so-called OSR for more than fifteen years and I saw rise and fall of many “big things” - S&W, ACKS, Black Hack and now OSE. And I think they are all great games. And that’s the point - I see no reason at all to make another generic and “nice” product. I want to make things weird and hard to interpret.
I want to make things both confusing and inspiring (I’ve used these words somewhere before but I can’t remember where). Lists and tables that have no explanation of their use. Ugly artwork with even less sense. With all things conveying particular atmosphere.
There are tons of great solo RPG resources out there. Thus, in my opinion, there’s no need to emulate, clone or “improve” any of them - it would be pointless. I just want to give you some basic engine to use along a really dark and really weird setting. Wish me luck - as it won’t be easy!
